COOLEST MICROSIM CONTEST
January 15th to June 15th, 2024
The "Coolest Microsim Contest," a collaborative initiative by the Minnesota IT Center of Excellence, CodeSavvy, and MTN, is a unique and exciting competition designed to inspire creativity and innovation in the field of mechanical engineering and A.I. driven computer programming.
This contest not only promotes technical skills and understanding of mechanical systems but also encourages participants to think critically and creatively.
The partnership between the Minnesota IT Center of Excellent, CodeSavvy, and MTN in hosting this contest underscores their commitment to fostering a love for STEM in the community, providing a platform for budding engineers and programmers to demonstrate their talents and learn from each other.
Who can participate?
Students and Instructors in grades K-12. Participate as an individual or as a classroom
College students and faculty. Participate as an individual or group
Families who have students interested in STEM
Organizations that have students interested in STEM
Anyone who has an interest in AI or wants to learn something new
Criteria and Rules
Participants are encouraged to use their preferred programming language and visualization tools (p5js.org has an online editor for ease of use, but any language will work) to create engaging microsimulations, which will be showcased in one-minute social media videos.
The microsims should be based on one of these 30 mechanical principles, and here is the process of creating a microsim.
Each microsim video should be no more than 1 minute in length
If under the age of 18, a parent approval is needed

Prizes
Prizes will be awarded for the top three Mircosims
Top Prize - $500 cash
2nd Prize - Mechanical Engineering Principles Lego Set (Value: $250)
3rd Prize - $100 cash
Additional recognition for notable entries in categories like “Most Creative,” “Most Educational,” etc.
Submission
There is no limit to the number of microsim video submissions. There are 3 options to submit, and you are not limited to using only one.
Option 1
Using either X or Instagram, upload your 1-minute video using #Microsim
Option 2
Submit your 1-minute video using the google form, Microsim Contest
Option 3
Email your 1-minute video to INFO@MTN.org. Make sure to label each video correctly.
